The owners had lived in this Sturbridge Lakes contemporary for 20 years and finally wanted to take down the wall between the kitchen and family room. We engineered a 22-foot LVL beam to span the opening and designed a 13-foot island as the new center of gravity.
Cabinets are slab-front white oak with no upper cabinets on the working wall — replaced with a 10-foot quartzite slab backsplash. A 36-inch induction cooktop sits in the island. Hidden refrigerator and dishwasher behind matching panels.
Scope: Load-bearing wall removal, 22-foot LVL beam, 13-foot island, slab quartzite backsplash, integrated panel-ready appliances.
